It's the emotional connection
Shortly after Jason died, his sister bought his Dodge Charger from me. We had planned to keep the car, and give it to Jack when he was old enough to drive. Now, it seems, that that may not happen. We had a really bad hailstorm last night, and the car was out in the drive. There was no "room at the inn" so to speak. Even with the best of efforts made to protect the car, it was battered. Because it is so old (2010) and has 60,000 miles on it, it is very possible that the insurance company will total the car. We are two weeks away from the 6 year anniversary of Jason's passing, and three weeks out from Jack starting to learn how to drive. He wasn't going to get the car right away, but still, he's been looking forward to it. If it turns out that the car is totaled, it will be difficult for Jack. Not because ti was a cool car, but because it was his dad's. He has memories of riding around with his dad listening to the Classic Rock station, and of fun times they had driving around. My poor sister-in-law was out in the storm trying to protect the car. She took some hits, but is thankfully okay. I guess we will cross that bridge when we get to it, but it still makes me sad to think about.
