Funny things that appear hereditary.

For a while now, Jason and I have tried to get Jack to slow down when he eats. I hate that kids have 30 minutes at lunch time during the school year, because they learn to shove food in their mouths and eat as fast as they can so they can talk and visit with their friends. We've tried to show Jack the importance of eating slowly and enjoying your food.

A few years back, Jason parents pointed out a funny thing that Jack does when he eats, sometimes. He'll make noises, like he's enjoying what he's eating. It's hard to describe and it doesn't happen all of the time and it's not really loud. It's more of a satisfied sound. But, it's funny. Jason was usually the one to get on to Jack when he would make the noises at the dinner table, and usually the argument would ensue between the two. Jack would insist that he wasn't making any noises and that Jason was just picking on him and making fun of him. Jason would insist that he was teaching Jack table manners and that yes, Jack was actually making noises when he ate. Jack insisted he wasn't. And so on and so on until one of them would leave the table mad at the other. Jack has gotten better about not making noises when he eats, and he's slowed down eating. We've also been working on him eating until he's satisfied and not until he's so stuffed he's about to vomit.

Well, lately I've noticed that Jack's noise making when he eats is something that Jason does as well. Now, granted he doesn't do it all of the time but he still does it. I've even asked him if he hears himself making the sound, and the interesting thing is, he doesn't. He said that sometimes he's clearing his throat (it does sound different), but the other times he doesn't hear it. I kept pointing it out last night because he was doing it while he ate some watermelon, and finally he heard it. He doesn't realize he's doing it most of the time. So maybe Jack didn't either.

But, it's interesting.

It could be worse...Jack could have gotten my fart loudly at the table when eating something spicy gene. That is a proud JDHTEACH tradition.
