I go from watching the opera to watching snails reproduce

Today was 6th grade's day at the opera. We travelled down to the Music Hall at Fair Park to watch Robert Devereux. It was an Italian opera about Robert Devereux the step son of the Earl of Essex (Queen Elizabeth I's main man until he died). It was an interesting opera and as many operas are - quite sad. Of course, I liked Tosca a lot better. We saw that last year. We left school at 9:00 and got back at 1:45. The kids scarfed down their lunches and then went to band/orchestra at 2:00.

Then it was one of my student's turn to clean out the snail container. He came over after awhile and said that two of the snails wouldn't come apart. He asked if I thought that they were reproducing. "Of course they aren't," I said. However, upon further observation you could see the "love darts" and it was true -- the snails were having sex. How appropriate since we just finished watching the growth and development video.
