National Night Out

Tonight was our National Night Out celebration. Now, if anybody reads this blog besides family and friends, you're probably thinking that NNO was back in August. Well, Texas got an exemption this year after a few years of appealing the August date. If there was a big enough show at the October dates than they (NNO people) would consider letting Texas do theirs in October. I have to say, October weather sure beats the hell out of August weather. The weather in Texas has gotten cooler a little bit earlier than in past years, so tonight was wonderful. The high today was 78 degrees, and by 5:30 it was cooler than that. I'm not sure if the turnout was better than last year, but people stayed longer. We stayed the whole time, even somewhat past while the kids played. We even got to see Macho, one of our cities drug dogs. We live in a suburb of a metropolitan area, so the two drug dogs we have a lot for us.

One interesting tidbit I learned tonight is that even though we're a suburb of a metropolitan area, we have a bigger participation than the metro area. I was shocked. On average the metro area has 100 neighborhoods participate in NNO, our suburb has 200 neighborhoods participate.

Anyway, here's to hoping that the NNO people let Texas continue their crime watch nights be in October!
