She's no Picasso, but hey it's a house.

Today I finally started a project that has been waiting a year to get done. We remodeled our house last summer (sort of). We needed to install a bigger dog door for our big dog, Maggie. It turned into quite a job, but ended up getting rid of two windows. We placed siding over the old window areas, and it needed to be painted. But since I was doing it myself, I was in no hurry to do it in the middle of the summer. So I thought I'd wait until it got cooler and I'd finish the job. However, when it got cooler Jdhteach relapsed with his leukemia and the job got put on the back burner. Since I had a three day weekend, I thought I'd get started. It's definitely gotten cooler, so now was the perfect time. Saturdays are a wash because of soccer and flag football, so Sunday was my starting day. I wanted to get started before Monday because it is supposed to rain Monday. I ended up getting the front part of the house, the porch, and the side painted. I have to touch up under the eaves on the side, but for the most part it's done. Now I can go to the back and finish up the part of the job that started this whole thing in the first place.

My son and husband had a chance to go to the Bengals/Cowboys game this afternoon. So it was a perfect time to get started on the house. Caroline and I went to the paint store and purchased the paint that Jdhteach and I had decided on. I got worried when his mom said it was too bright. Caroline and I decided the color looked nice, so we ended up painting what we did. I say "we" because Caroline wanted to help. She helped me paint the porch and the side of the house which was an exercise in patience on my part. She's five and loves to paint. I think she thought we were going to paint like she likes to do. She actually did quite well other than the occasional goof ups. I often found myself repeating the mantra, "It's not biggy" each time something happened that wasn't that great. She got frustrated when we were done painting what she could help with while I climbed up on a ladder and painted under the eaves.

We started at 1:30 in the afternoon and ended up finishing about 7:00 pm. We stopped occasionally to watch the Cowboys play, which was highly frustrating. So I found myself painting more than watching. Hopefully the rain will hold off long enough for me to get the back done, but if it doesn't it's no biggy. I'll finish up next weekend. Thank goodness the back has more places Caroline can help. She actually did do a good job.
