History Repeats Itself

Caroline's first soccer game was today. She did quite well. She scored 4 goals, which made her feel good. I hadn't realized how tall Caroline was until she stood next to her teammates. Most of the kids on the team are young 4's or almost 5. She's a good head taller than the rest of them. She's 3' 10'' in her bare feet.

When they started practicing before the game, I overheard some parents questioning Caroline's actual age. This happened when Jack started playing. He was so much taller than the rest of the team, several people on the opposing teams questioned his age. One time, a dad got very verbal about how Jack was playing it upset him. Thank goodness our coach told the man he'd have to leave the field if he didn't pipe down. I told the man that I'd be happen to provide a copy of Jack's birth certificate for him if he wanted, but I was pretty sure that Jack was 5 because I was there when he was born. That kinda shut him up.

The coach from the other team made a comment to our coach about Caroline being so tall. The coach just blew it off and said that Caroline had just celebrated her 5th birthday. After that I didn't hear anything about it until about half way through the first quarter. One of the kids started pestering Caroline and telling her that she was lying about how old she was. A little boy on the other team stood up for her though. I heard him say, "Uh huh she's 5! She's in my class at school and you have to be 5 to be in my class!"

Turns out the little boy is in Caroline's preschool class.
