Today at school, Caroline learned two things...
1) If she were to drop out of the Art Magnet, she would have to return to her home school.
2) If she wanted to apply to a magnet at the High School, she will only be able to apply to one.
Neither of these choices she liked. When she asked the school counselor for more information as to why she'd only be able to apply for one program, the woman couldn't give her a response. Caroline kept asking for the information, but in different ways, until the woman (I'm sure exasperated by that point) said, "Well, you should ask some one."
Now, I'm sure with most kids this would've been the end of the conversation. Not my child. I've always taught them that someone, some where will have the answers. They just have to keep asking until they find that someone, some where. So, Caroline did just that. She went to the school district's website, and searched. And searched. And searched. In her opinion, the website was not helpful so she researched people in the district that were listed on the "Administration" site. When telling me to whom she sent the email, she prefaced it by saying, "Now, this was probably not the correct person to send it to, but..."
She then proceeded to tell me that she'd sent her email to the Superintendent of our district. At this point in time, all I could do was laugh. I made sure to tell her that I wasn't laughing at her, I was laughing at the fact she got so frustrated that she sent it to the top. I looked at the email, and she points out that I work in the district. Thank goodness she didn't tell her I teach writing because "Goodness Gracious!!!"
Regardless of the spelling. Her email is well written, gets to the point, and is very polite. I'm very impressed with how she handled the situation. My girl is going to be just fine.
