As a family, we decided that today would be the perfect day to go look. We had a list of four (but if truth be told...I'd have taken them all) and headed to Operation Kindness. I had had luck with them for Maggie, so decided to go back. "Harper Lee" was the fist on the list that we came to. Knowing we would change her name, we just called her Sweetheart. She is the quietest, reserved dog I have ever seen. We took her for a walk and she just bonded with everyone, so we decided she was the one.
She is a Plott Hound/Strafordshire Terrier mix. We didn't know a whole lot about Plott Hounds before now, but they're very interesting animals. Like most hounds they are hunting dogs. Maggie was bred to hunt lions, Plott Hounds were bred to hunt wild boar. Now, with her disposition right now I don't think hunting wild boar would be her top choice. She was rescued after her original owners abandoned her upon moving somewhere. The neighbors noticed she was still there and called the city shelter. The city shelter came and got her, but had no room for her. Someone at the shelter contacted Operation Kindness and they took her in.
After we got home, we introduced the other dogs and let me just say I was flabbergasted! Max disliked Maggie to the nth degree. One or the other had to be penned up for the first three weeks so there wouldn't be any fights. After introducing the dogs, one by one, Max and Willow were fast friends (so much so, that Willow moved into Max's crate). After being floored that the intros went so well, (Willow submitted to Max immediately) we went about naming her. Each person wrote their choice on a piece of paper and we drew the name out of a bucket (diplomatic I know). Surprisingly enough, the kids worked together and chose Willow. Kevin and I chose Rebel, and Allie had chosen Autumn. Obviously, Willow won out.
So, welcome to your forever family Willow! We're glad you're here!
