Another example of why men are from Mars and Women are from Venus -- in children.

Okay. So here's another early example of why Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus. Earlier this week Jason wasn't feeling very well so he worked for most of the day and then left early, picked up the kids right after school and came home. Apparently his mom was here collecting clothes to wash, visited for a little bit and left. A little while later, she called in a panic because she couldn't find a ring she'd been wearing and was hoping it had fallen off over here. So here's the example of why my kids personify the Mars/Venus thing:

Jason: "Okay guys. We need to put an APB out on a ring of Grammy's. She had it on when she was here but now can't find it." Crickets are chirping as the kids are listening (like - who cares?). Jason continues: "It was a ring that belonged to Great-Grandma Fincannon (that's Grammy's mom who recently passed away. Jack was EXTREMELY close to her and was devastated when she died).

At the mention that it was Great-Grandma Fincannon's ring, Jack took off down the hall to his room to look for it. However, Caroline is still sitting there like, "Yeah, and?"

Caroline: "So what does it look like?"
Jason: "I don't know, it's a ring."
Caroline: "So? I've got rings in my room, how will I know it's hers?"
Jason: "I don't know what it looks like? It is a ring with three rows of diamonds."

At the mention of diamonds, Caroline bolts off the bed and races down the hall to her room to look.

Jack's motivation: Great-Grandma Fincannon's ring.
Caroline's motivation: Diamonds.

Editor's note: It wasn't over here. I found it between the dryer and wall over at her house. It had fallen when she was going through the clothes.

This cracked me up. Definitely everyone has different priorities and motivations, and guys' priorities do tend to group together, and girls' priorities do, too. But, I also love Caroline's desire for more detail and her very logical observation that she needed some way to tell Grammy's ring apart from ALL the rings she herself has. Classic! Go, Jack and Caroline -- way to help out. :)
