Day 2 Niagra Falls

My sister and I rented a car yesterday to travel to Niagra Falls. We were told it was an hour away, so that didn't seem too bad. Except it was raining cats and dogs a majority of the way down there. But hey! It's Canadian rain was our joke (if you've ever seen Enchanted April you'll get it). We made a few stops along the way so it took more than an hour. Here's what we noticed about traveling the highway in Canada:

1) Even though the posted speed says, "Maximum 100km/h" that doesn't mean you have to go that fast (we did though), you can go faster.
2) They're really serious about speeding. A sign posted every few km said, "50 km/h over the speed limit will result in a $10,000 fine, seizure of driver's liscense, seizure of vehicle." So anything up to 50 km over is fine? (from watching the cab driver's drive I think that's a yes.)
3) Unlike in the US, when a blue sign states that there is food, gas, and lodging at the next exit and there is; in Canada you get off the highway and have to travel another 2-10 km before you get to that gas, lodging, and food.
4) Apparently, golf here is just as important as food, gas, and lodging when on a highway. Each town we went through had BIG blue signs that said what golf course was at the next exit. We must have seen 20 different golf courses on the way down.
5) Signage in Canada is AWESOME. Not many buildboards if any, plus when they tell you that the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way) is this way, they keep posting signs leading you to the QEW until you get on it. In Dallas, a sign will say something is "this way" but expect you to be able to find it after that.
6) Gas here is $0.95. We were excited about that one. We thought it was more expensive because that's what we'd heard. Upon further thought (after all it was late) we realized it was $0.95 a LITER! So to fill up our Toyota Yaris we spent $18.00! (No wonder we didn't see many SUV's, that's $3.60 a gallon).

Needless to say we didn't have any trouble getting to the falls or back.

I'm so glad we went to Niagara Falls. For some reason Facebook won't upload some of my pictures, so I'll post them later. We got to see the Falls lit up at night. That was awesome. I highly recommend that you come and visit if you can. They're amazing to see and listen to. The tours are pretty good too. If you absolutely want to do the Maid of the Mist that's fine, but you can get down and see the Falls on both sides and get just as wet (we did). There are 2 falls on the American side (American and Bridal Falls) and one (really 1/2 - because the American/Canadian border divides it in half) on the Canadian side (The Horseshoe Falls). It truly is Nature's finest and awe-inspiring.

I am so glad we went. I had a lot of fun taking side trips with my sister into Canada's Wine country (even though I'm not a wine fan). It was gorgeous. They had vineyards and orchards EVERYWHERE. I guess because the weather's really nice people can get out and work in their yards more because everyone's garden was gorgeous and colorful.

Again, if you can come you should. I truly wish you were here.
