Okay, Jdhteach and I like to watch the Food Network and HGTV. Many of the shows on the major networks don't interest us. Anyway. There was a show on the other day on the Food Network that caught my eye. It was talking about the history of coupon clipping for groceries and such. There was a segment on it about a lady who started the website called The Grocery Game. She as a team of people that look at local coupons coming up in the Sunday papers and the specials for different grocery stores in that area and compares them. They then create a list of deals for the store and what is required (i.e. is it a store special or does it require a coupon as well). I signed up for the trial subscription - $1 for 4 weeks, and if I like it I can continue my subscription for $10 for 8 weeks for the first list and $5 for any other list. There are really only 2 stores that I frequent and one I like way more than the other so I only signed up for one list. I printed off their list today for the grocery store I was going to and clipped coupons this morning. I think with in-store specials and coupons I saved about $30. I had to set a grocery budget for the rest of the month that is going to be hard to attain, but I'm determined to try.
Today I got about $110 of groceries for about $60 with coupons and in-store specials. As I get better with this coupon clipping reality of mine, I will end my subscription to the website. But for now, it's coming in handy. I've already saved the subscription fee for about 40 weeks. Not bad. I'm sure if I went to more stores for the best deals I'd save more money, however it would cost gas to go to all of those places. So for now I'll just stick with my handy dandy supermarket with marked up prices.
