Gotta love modern technology

I just love technology. Our school just bought a document scanner and it came in handy this morning. I received an email from a mom who was concerned her son needed a graphing calculator for class. The assignment, if done by the directions, called for one. However, 6th graders now a days in Texas learn algebra and we've started. We're on variables right now and building tables using algebraic expressions. We did the first two problems together and I had them write it down in their journals. They can take their journals home to use as a study guide to help them remember what we did in class. Back to the email. I went to the computer lab and scanned the journal entry (from my journal) and attached as a document to the reply email I sent the parent. They were able to see what the directions were and what it should have looked like. As it turns out, the student hasn't taken notes in two days, so that journal entry wasn't in his journal. Hmmmm. But the scanner helped me show what we did in class and that it should have been in his journal.

Ahh, technology isn't it grand?

Those are great to have. We have an industrial grade one here with a document feeder. I scanned 50 double-sided pages in under a minute and e-mailed it off to the client in minutes. Now if there were just a way I could sneak it out of here and get it home.
