Caroline started a new school today. I have to admit I was a little nervous, but Caroline wasn't being challenged enough at her previous school in terms of getting her ready for kindergarten (she will go to kinder next year). The pre-kindergarten school that we have her in now is one that is for teachers in the district.
I dropped them off at my in-laws house this morning with every trepidation possible. My mother-in-law called shortly after dropping Caroline off at school with the best news possible: Caroline sailed into school. Apparently, Caroline insisted on carrying her lunch into the building while my mother-in-law was forced to carry the blanket for nap time. Caroline practiced opening her locker, and then put her lunch on the very top shelf while placing her blanket on the bottom. They then went into the classroom and after my mother-in-law signed her in she looked up to tell Caroline good-bye, but Caroline had already run off into the classroom.
When I picked Caroline up today, she was absolutely happy. We got her lunchbox out of her locker, got her blanket and her newsletters and headed out the door. It took us 10 minutes to get to the church daycare where Jack is this week, and the whole time Caroline talked about her day: lunch in the lunchroom, her new friends, her teacher, and the instruments they got to play today.
We're really excited about the pre-k class. It's in one of the elementary schools in the district, and they get to do a lot of the same things the students in the regular school get to do. They go to music once a week and P.E. twice a week. They get to go to the lunchroom and eat lunch with the other students. They even get to go through the lunch line. It is really neat because when she goes to kindergarten, she'll already be used to some of the activities that throw kids for a loop.
Here's to Caroline's new school!
