My Car the Time Machine

Tonight on the way home from dinner I had the most interesting experience. Let me preface the incident with the following antecdote:

When I was in high school I drove my younger sister around until she got her driver's liscense. I had the type of radio that could be taken out when you leave the car mainly because I had a soft top car that could be easily broken into. On the occasions when I either forgot to put the radio back in or it was stolen, I had the pleasure of enjoying Sara's singing. She would sing these songs like, "I loved her, but I had to kill her." and I swore they were made up just to annoy me. However, she insisted they weren't. She knew how much I didn't like her singing, so she ofter sang loud and off key. Luckily when she went of to college that all stopped.

Fast forward approximately 18 years to tonight. My son and daughter like to listen to music, but often argue about what to listen to. To solve the problem, I lend my daughter my Ipod shuffle, and Jack inherited an older version of the Ipod. It's nice because once they put the ear buds on, it's total silence in the car. That is until tonight. I'm driving down the road and all of a sudden Jack starts singing "Shadow of the Day" by Linkin Park. He knows some of the words but not all, so often he's singing - way off key and loud -- the words, but then will slur the parts he doesn't know. Or he'll make up words that will fit. Caroline does the same thing, although she's more on key, but still loud. Tonight it was the dueling Ipods -- Shadow of the Day and Viva la Vida by Coldplay.

I was so glad to get out of my time machine -- I mean car -- when I got home.

To stop the slurring speach while Jack sings try to stop him after ONE margarita.

The whole singing thing is definitely a family trait. And be thankful that Jack is just making up selected words and not entire songs. Caroline on the other hand . . . Definitely keep the iPods handy -- they're your only defense.
