Last night we had a pretty loud thunderstorm roll through. The kids were asleep so they slept right through it, thank goodness. This morning it's raining pretty well. The kids were so excited (only in Texas), you'd thought it was snowing. They jumped out of bed and put their suits on and dashed outside with their scooters. It's not often that it rains this long in August (1 hour). I'm so glad for many reasons: it's cooler, I don't have to water, and the clay soil around my foundation will soak it up (amazing how perspectives change as you get older).
I remember growing up and getting excited when it rained because my mom would let my sisters and I go outside and play in it. We even had a pool and her rule was, "If it's not thundering you can still swim -- you're already wet." That's my rule when it comes to swimming over at my sister's house (she lives in the house we grew up in). We, personally, don't have a pool so in the summers we go over to her house.
But now, I"m watching my kids get excited that it's raining in August, and splashing in puddles doing scooter tricks and loving it.
Guess our rain dances worked.
