This morning I went to "Meet the teacher" at my daughter's new school. By the end of the morning, Caroline was not at all worried or nervous about attending. Afterwards, it was about lunch time so we went to a local eating establishment for some pizza. I gave each child $2 to play the games, and with some urging from her brother Caroline played the driving game (which I hope is absolutely no indication of what her future driving habits will be like). Anyway, I have to say that considering how poorly the two of them have treated each other lately, the lunch was a wonderful experience.
They shared with each other, helped each other get pizza, Jack helped Caroline push down the gas pedal on the game because her feet just didn't quite reach. Even after discovering that Caroline had used all of her money on the car game and didn't have enough for the candy machine, Jack usually would have said, "Too bad so sad. That was your choice." But today, he gave her two of his quarters. Granted he found 3 on the floor, but still it was nice that he gave them to her. Then somehow he got two extra toys in the machine when he put his money in, so after Caroline got him some cinnamon roles when she got her own dessert, he let her pick one of the extra toys.
As I sat and watched them I said, "Are you sure you two are my children?" Jack's response (not understanding the joke), "Yeah, we're sure." It made for a nice lunch, and I just got a chuckle every time they did something nice for each other.

Yea! A nice lunch for EVERYONE. It's so great when the universe lets the mommy have an enjoyable time, too. :) Particularly since, unlike the aunts, the mommy doesn't get to just drop off the kids and go have a quiet glass of wine after a tough day!
