Our summer started off with a bang.

Jack was so excited about summer being here and asked if he could invite a friend over to spend the night.  After agreeing, the friend showed up and they were ensconced in the movie room playing on Jack's Xbox.  On Saturday, they were playing outside and I was reading in the house when all of a sudden Jack materialized next to me and said the words I have come to dread..."Now Mom, don't get mad but..."  When I looked up, this is what I saw.  Apparently, the boys had gone outside to play with Jack's airsoft guns and were shooting at targets in the yard.  At some point, not sure what happened, his friend shot Jack in the eye.  Thank goodness he flinched!  At one point last night I gave Jack the This-is-what-we've-been-telling-you-all-of-these-years speech, and added a This-is-what-could've-happened speech at the end.

Needless to say, that after learning that he could've gone blind and had to go to the emergency room because his eyeball was oozing out of his eye socket, (okay, so I went a bit overboard) he responded, "Can we just get rid of them?"  To which I responded...Why yes, yes we can.

I do have to say though, I'm impressed with Jack.  He didn't cry or carry on when it happened.  He was quite calm and collected when he came and told me.  Maybe he'll be okay on the football field after all. Today, his eyelid is purple, but that's about it.

Not to be out shone by her brother though, Caroline jammed her wrist pretty good when she fell of her bike while attempting to do the "Look Mom, No Hands" trick.
