Okay. So here's how my weekend was SUPPOSED to go:
* Go get my race packet from the Convention Center for Sunday's Dallas Marathon, Kevin up from Buda with Allie on Friday,
*Saturday...relax, stretch, get ready for Sunday figure out how I was going to get to the starting corrals;
* Sunday - Run the Half Marathon and rest up for Monday at work.
Here's how my weekend went:
On Thursday at work I started not feeling well. Kind of a scratchy throat, things followed the way that Caroline had progressed the day before. She stayed home from school on Thursday with my older sister. I picked her up after school and went to the local Primacare because her doctor's office was closed. It was decided that we both had strep, and I wouldn't be running the marathon. No biggie. We both aren't allergic to medicine so we were prescribed, so we were given Amoxicillin. We start taking our medicine and by Friday Caroline is much better, I however, am not. It seems that I got worse before I was going to get better, which didn't seem right. I called the doctor's office back and they said if it wasn't better by the next morning to go in. Well, on Saturday it was worse. My tongue was swollen, I had sores in my mouth, and was wheezing slightly. Yep, that's right, I'm allergic to Penicillin and I didn't know it. So we switched to a Zpac, I got two shots in the hip, and a mouthwash and was sent home. I started taking the medicine, but still, I got worse. By the end of the day, I was worried. My head hurt, I had a fever, my jaw hurt to open it, my joints hurt, and the other strep symptoms were still there in strength. My sister suggested that she take me to the emergency room just to see what was going on. At the least, they'd rehydrate me and send me home. It was hard for Kevin, but he stayed with Jack who was massively afraid because I was going to the hospital and he just knew I wasn't coming home. Kevin did an AWESOME job comforting Jack and keeping him busy. I was able to text back and forth with Jack to give him a heads up and reassure him.
My sister took me to Medical City and we were taken to the back for monitoring. I was not the picture of perfect health, let me tell you. I wobbled when I walked, had no energy, and hurt all over. I was immediately hooked up to fluids and eventually an antibiotic. I was also hooked up to a heart monitor because my heart rate was high when we came in. It was always slow going when I had to get up. And, I could only lay on my left side because my back hurt and it hurt my neck to lay on the right side. When I'd been on fluids for a little bit, I was able to joke around with the staff that helped me out, so I knew I was getting better. After a CT scan, it was discovered that I had an abscess on my right tonsil and was admitted. After a night of more antibiotics and fluids, I was feeling a TON better. The ENT came in and we had a discussion of what to do about the abscess. I could have him drain it now, or wait a few days and if it needs to be drained, I come in and have it drained. Then I'd have to take a few days off. So, I opted to do it Sunday. I do not wish to ever do that again. I have to say the Teddy the nurse was impressed with the fact I didn't scream or cry. I joked with the doctor at the end of it. I told Teddy I had a good role model for taking it on the chin and dealing with things...Jason.
I was discharged and home by the end of the third quarter of the Cowboy game, but I have to stay home for two days.
Not exactly how my weekend was supposed to go. But I feel better. There's always next year for the Marathon.
