Today was my parent/teacher conference with Caroline's teacher. It was just a review of the progress Caroline had made during the year. Overall it went really well. She only got 2 P's (G - Good progress, P - progress, and W - working on it). The first P was for "responding to and respecting authority". Her teacher reassured me that she respected the teachers, it was just getting her to respond (Yeah, we get that at home too).
I was really impressed with Caroline's progress. She can count to 59 by herself, and only needed a little help to get to 100. She picked up similarities and differences in pictures really easily. The activity was to look at 3 pictures in a row and identify the different one. Her teacher pointed out the two sets of pictures most kids had trouble with and said that Caroline hadn't missed a beat when it came to finding the different one.
The one thing that I was really impressed with was Caroline's handwriting. She made all of her letters a normal size (not the jumbo size most kids make at first). She also made lower case letters along with the capital letters. She knew how to spell Cat, Jack, Mom, Dad and could recognize several high frequency words. Basically it's reassuring to know that she's ready for Kindergarten. Jack missed out on a lot of the things Caroline's been exposed to mainly because we sent him to a private kindergarten. He's made up the gap, but it's taken two years of really hard work from him and the staff at our school.
It'll be interesting to see how kindergarten goes.
