My kids came through yesterday.

Yesterday after Summer School I had to rush home and get Caroline and then head to Grove Hill Cemetery for a funeral for a dear friend of my in-laws.  Caroline doesn't like funerals (who can blame her), but she's learning that sometimes we  have to do things that we don't like because it's family.  The gentleman whose funeral it was had been friends with my in-laws since junior high.  Their families had grown up and played together, their milestones (and setbacks) had been experienced together.

Yesterday, was a difficult day, to say the least.  But Jack stepped up in his dad's place and I was extremely proud of him.  After strength and conditioning at the high school, he went back over to my in-laws and got ready for the day's events.  He was with my father-in-law and helped him when he needed that strength.  Of course, Jack met some people that Pa had known for a while, but Jack also got to see some people that he hadn't seen since Jason passed away.  No matter what the did or where they went, Jack was with his Pa.  When I met them at the cemetery, Jack walked with Pa to the place where his friend would rest in peach, and didn't leave his side until it was over.  I'm sure Jason was very proud of Jack for being there for Pa when he needed the extra strength.  Jason was there to greet Buck, and to be there for Pa and Grammy yesterday.

I was very proud of Caroline, as well.  She didn't want to go to the funeral, they make her sad and uncomfortable.  I completely understand, but she needed to go due to the closeness of the deceased to the family.  She wore a very pretty dress, even though she's sunburned and was very uncomfortable.  It was hot, but she went out and said hi to Grammy and Pa and some other people.  She was very gracious even though she was in distress and hot (it was very humid yesterday).  As soon as she'd made her appearance, I let her go back to the car.  She watched the rest of the service, and even got back out when it was done to continue to be introduced to some people.

My kids definitely stepped up to the plate yesterday, and supported their family.  Their dad (and I and Kevin) are very proud of them.
