The kids and I have recently discovered Boomerang on the Cartoon Network. Now, I understand that many of you probably already know about the channel, but I just found it. It's the channel that plays all of the "old" cartoons. You know, the ones we grew up on. In the afternoon there's The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Tom and Jerry, Yogi Bera, Blueberry Hound, Scooby Doo and Casper. Sometimes on Saturdays they even have the Smurfs. There's even a cartoon called "The Snorks" which looks like a cross between some underwater adventure and The Smurfs.
Anyway. On Saturdays, REALLY early in the morning, they have The Banana Splits and Friends. I used to love this show. It had funny actors in costume, a cool mini series in it, and some funny jokes. Not to mention some really cool visual effects. My kids know that Mom and Dad used to watch cartoons, and it cracks them up because parent aren't supposed to like cartoons. So when they first saw the Banana Splits and Friends, they came barreling down (at 6 o'clock in the morning) the hall and into our room and got me out of bed to see if I'd seen the show when I was little. I sat down to watch it, smiling the whole time because I was remembering sitting in front of the TV captivated by the costumed actors that were dancing around. Then I started laughing at the "visual effects" because they were so corny and 70's.
I got a good chuckle out of "Danger Island" their little mini series in the show. It was so goofy, but when I was little it captivated me and I was really scared for those people. Now I'm amazed that it didn't scare the living tar out me with some of their fight scenes and scary "natives".
Before I knew it it was time for the Wacky Racers (an hour later) and I had to watch that and explain to my kids, that yes, I watched that as well.
