As many of you know, Jason has battled with cancer for about 2 1/2 years now. It's been a long time since we have been able to do things around the house without him getting exhausted just straightening up a room.
Today during the Christmas parade, Jason asked me what was on our docket for today. So I rattled off everything that we were doing: Parade, I had to meet a lady at our church to drop off donated items for care packages for soldiers, a housewarming party, and then getting our Christmas decorations out front put up. Jason said that he wanted to clean out the garage after the parade so we could get both of our cars back in. We were getting tired of not being able to park in the garage, and freezing our butts off in the mornings. I was surprised that he said, "we should clean out the garage." mainly because he's been so tired lately and that was a big project.
When we got home from lunch, we got him a scarf to cover his mouth and nose and he went out and used the blower to clean off the back patio while Caroline and I put leaves in a trash bag to clean the driveway up. Jason cleaned out the garage and we made a keep pile and a Goodwill pile. After we cleaned out the garage and put things up, Jason went around to the front and blew out the flower beds, and then blew the leaves out of our yard and into the street.
At this time, he went and sat down in a lawn chair to rest. He rested about 5 minutes, and then got up and helped set up the rest of our decorations. He had to go to Home Depot to get some extension cords, and then we finished putting up the decorations. By the time we were done, he'd worked outside for about 2 hours.
It was so nice that he was able to help. It made things go smoothly and quickly. It almost felt like it was 3 years ago and nothing was wrong. I'm wary of saying that, I've only said it out loud twice. I'm wary of saying it out loud for fear that it'll jinx everything. Jason has to make it 2 more years before we can be truly optimistic about his recovery, and we're not even at year one (we're close).
