I teach 6th grade at an elementary school. The kids started asking a few months back what I had asked for for Christmas. I knew that they were asking to find out what they should get me, and it usually consists of little trinket things that end up as white elephant gifts. So this year, I started dropping "hints" about what would be good to get me fro Christmas. I suggested things like: red checking pens, spiral journals, folders, paper, map pencils, pencils, etc. You know, things that we can use around the classroom come spring when everything else has been used up.
Well, today I got my first present. I got two spiral notebooks that I can use as math journals when we take notes in math class. There was also a "surprise" present in there. It was a CD that I could use in class. I use songs to help motivate the kids to stay on task and on time. A lot of times, I'll pick funny ones, "Batman", "Wonderwoman", and "The Backyardigans" when it's time to get lined up to switch classes. The "surprise" gift today was a Backyardigans CD. So, like the good teacher I am, I uploaded it to my itunes and I'll play some of the songs today in class.
