My son is participating in Upward Flag Football this year. My husband and I found it to be a good compromise. My son wanted to play football, but we just couldn't agree since most of the leagues around us do contact. He's seven years old, and we feel it's a little young to be doing contact right now. We found this league through a friend and decided that since it's Upward and flag football we could agree to let him play. When I signed Jack up I had requested that he be placed with the other kids in his neighborhood so that the practices could be closer. Well, we got his letter today and it turns out he's on the Texans and they practice 2o minutes away on the same night as my daughter's dance classes. I was furious that they hadn't honored my request to put Jack on the same team as his friends. I explained to Jack that a friend of his was on the Titans and he was on the Texans. He was bummed at first, but then got excited because he liked the name of his team.
I'll be doing the same thing this year that I did two years ago when both kids had practice 30 minutes apart. I'll drop him off, then drive 20 minutes to drop her off, then turn around and drive 20 more minutes to pick him up, then go back and pick her up. I was really irritated about it, but listening to Jack go on and on about how exciting it was and how much he enjoyed the football camp today made me realize it's about him right now. Not me.
But then again, it became that way when he was born.

I know it is a bummer but try not to worry about the small stuff. Jack will make friends with whoever is on his team and the time in the car...is quiet time for you.
