Lesson Learned

This evening, we had my in-laws over for dinner. The kids were playing outside with the neighborhood kids, so we let them play until dinnertime. Caroline came in for a little bit to help her "Pa" cook. When she'd had enough, she went back out to play. When it was time for dinner we called the kids in and were sitting down to the table to eat, when Jack decided he wanted to forgo dinner in order to play with the kids longer. My husband made sure to let Jack know that when we were done with dinner and had cleaned up, dinner was over and the kitchen would be closed (basically we zip-tie the refrigerator and pantry shut so the kids can't go and graze when they want to). He said he understood and went out to play, while Caroline happily ate her dinner and then ran out to play. Jack came inside in time to eat the cantaloupe for dessert.

Fast-forward two hours: Jack is starving! He's tried several times to sneak into the kitchen and try to get something to eat, but has found his exploits to be fruitless. It's fun to listen to him go into the kitchen and try to get something eat. He's mentioned several times that he'd like a snack, "just a little one."

Yeah right, kitchen's closed.

It was funny when he DEMANDED something to eat or he would go get it himself.

Mom- Let me know how that works out for ya.

He went in there and everything was zip tied shut.

All you heard from the kitchen was.
