As I read about the evacuation process in New Orleans and listen to my husband's stories about people leaving Louisiana ahead of Gustav, I began to wonder. I understand leaving the area due to the high risk of flooding and damaging winds, but why leave the state entirely? I mean, northern Louisiana or north-eastern Louisiana are just as safe as leaving the state. I read about a man who wasn't sure if he was going to take the evacuation bus because he didn't know where it would go. He had family in Tennessee, but the bus was going to go to one of several places but no one knew where that would be. I understand if you're going to leave the state to be with family, but why leave entirely if another area of the state would be just as safe?
Not being from a place that experiences extreme episodes of Mother Nature's power, other than heat and tornadoes that appear unexpectedly, I can't fathom what they're experiencing. But I do have to wonder, why leave the state entirely?
