Tonight I had to do some creative shopping in order to get my daughter's costume for a birthday part tomorrow. My step-nephew is turning 3 and he's having a "Come dressed as your favorite superhero" party. Now, it's August and the Halloween costumes are just now starting to come out so I thought it wouldn't be a problem... WRONG! It has turned out to be one of the toughest things I've had to shop for. I mean, there are superhero costumes galore for boys -- Jack will be attending as Superman - Batman would be too popular right now and Spider Man had a mask (not good for August). None for girls. I did find a Wonder Woman costume online but the fabric would have proven too "itchy" for my daughter.
So while my husband took the kids to see the new Star Wars animated movie, I went on a secret mission to find the superhero costume for Caroline. I couldn't find a thing in the Superhero realm. What I came up with was an Anti-Super Hero instead. Not sure what she was going to think of being Cat Woman, I went ahead and purchased long gloves, cat ears (on a headband), a tail, and some black tights, and a pink cat mask.
When they got home from the movies, I showed Caroline what I had gotten her. She absolutely loved it! Of course I didn't have the black shirt and leggings, so we ended up improvising with what we had. She has a black leotard with a tulle skirt for dance so we put her new tights on, then the leotard. By this time she was absolutely giddy. Then we put the tail and ears on. To top it all off we added the long, black gloves and the pink cat mask. I don't have any black shoes either, so she is going to wear her silver, Sunday school shoes. She was so excited that I had to shut her bedroom door while we got dressed because she wanted it to be a surprise for her dad.
Well, when we were completely done, she strutted in front of her mirror and showed her "claws" and meowed ferociously at her reflection. She was totally into her costume. She instructed her dad to close his eyes, and then proceeded to strut down the hallway to where he was. She was so happy and she ended up playing in it for another 20 minutes. I could hear her in the toy room singing, "Yeah, that's right I'm Cat Woman!" Of course, looking at her all you can picture is what Cat Woman probably would have looked like at age 4.
So I guess every great superhero as a supergirl, so why not Cat Woman? Davis here we come, ready or not!
