Let me start at the beginning (it'll help you understand my distress yesterday)...
Growing up, there was a park near my house that we used to go to. There was nothing really special about it, other than that is where people played soccer and there was also a pavilion that originally had a picnic table. We would go with a picnic and our dog and eat and play. The best part was the creek that ran through the park. We would find ways to get down to the creek and explore after we had eaten. I enjoyed this park every year, until I was in fifth grade. Something changed when I was in fifth grade. I was at the park one day with my family, and I started sneezing. It was awful because the sneezes wouldn't stop. We had only been there about ten minutes, when my mom packed us up in the car and took us home. From the short distance it was from the park to our house, I kept sneezing, my eyes started watering, and eventually they were so swollen I couldn't see out of them. I laid on our couch while my mom brought cold compresses for my eyes. When I could see enough out of the them, she sent me to the shower.
We later found out that I had was allergic (all of a sudden) to cottonwood. So there ended my fun trips to the park near my house, except for soccer practice. Even with the allergy medicine I would still react, it just took longer to have the symptoms.
Fast forward to yesterday...
Knowing that Caroline had a soccer game yesterday, I made sure to take my allergy medicine early enough for it to take affect. It's not cottonwood season, but that doesn't matter these days. For an entire hour, I sneezed constantly. To the point where I sneezed my throat raw. I needed to take my car to the shop to drop it off, and Kevin was going to meet me there. When he got there, I got in the car and immediately started crying. My throat hurt, I couldn't stop sneezing, my eyes were red and watery and I could feel them swelling up. Knight in Shining Armor mode kicked in. He got me home quickly, told me to get in the shower, and off he went to Walgreen's. He returned about twenty minutes later, and had all of the medicine the pharmacist he'd waited in line to speak with recommended. When he got home, I was a bit calmer, but my eyes were still bloodshot and puffy. I had to take Claritin D, a nose spray, and allergy eye drops. I was so exhausted from the mornings allergy attack that as soon as I'd taken the medicine, I went to sleep. I felt much better, but my eyeballs hurt. I guess my eyes are dry, but man it felt weird. Today is better, but now we have to stay on top of it.
I have to say that yesterday, when I got in Kevin's truck, I felt like I was in fifth grade again. I'm glad he was there. I would've had to call my mom if he hadn't been. Not that that's bad, it's just that sometimes, having your own Knight in Shining Armor is comforting.
