If you've read my husband's blog, you've heard about the Oh Sh-t moment we had a Carolines' dance recital on Saturday. Jack found Pa smoking and this worried him to no end. At one point during the second act I looked at Jack and he was crying (the song was a slow, sentimental song). Jack was worried that his Pa was going to die from cancer because he smoked.
Well, Pa just came by and left. I was emptying out my car getting ready to take Jack to Twilight camp when Pa pulled up in the driveway. He called Jack out to his truck and I could see them talking behind Pa's door. Jack came tearing through the house and when I asked him what was wrong he said, "Nothing." as he tore to the bathroom. I heard the toilet flush and Jack came walking back with a HUGE smile on his face. Apparently Pa had given Jack the last four cigarettes in his "stash" and told Jack to go flush them.
Of course, there will be more cigarettes and Pa will be extra special cautious around the kids but I know he'll keep smoking. He's tried to quit before without success. But for now, Jack is satisfied that Pa has stopped and he doesn't worry anymore.
The lengths we go to protect our children (and grandchildren in this case).
