This isn't supposed to happen until January.

Last night, it snowed/sleeted for the fist time of the season. Here in Texas it may or may not happen until January. A few years back it sleeted in December and school was almost canceled for the next day. Very rarely does it happen in December though. The worst part about Texas weather in the fall is that you experience the extremes. The prior two days say 60 -70 degrees. Yesterday started off in the 60's, but the cold front came through about 11 a.m. and by the time we went out for recess at 12:15 the temperature had dropped about 10 degrees and the wind chill was in the 40's. the kids were blindsided because their parents didn't check the weather.

By the time Caroline and I left for cheerleading practice, the temperature was about 39 degrees with winds at about 20-25 miles per hour. Just as practice started it began to sleet. It made me a little nervous until I thought about the previous day's temperatures and figured it was a good show, but wouldn't stick. Needless to say, an hour later found Caroline and I trying to dodge sleet pellets as we ran to the car. Caroline used her cheerleading bucket as protection from the sleet, which looked pretty funny but worked remarkably well. By the time we got home it was mixed with snow, which then lasted about 30 minutes after that. The kids had fun playing out in the sleet/snow mix because it doesn't usually do that in December.

Caroline was the most excited about the sleet/snow. Her parting comment as we went back into the warmth of the house was, "That is soooo coool mom. This doesn't happen until January!"
