I had to be an essay grader today for our district's elementary school version of Academic Decathlon. Since Kevin was not able to come up this weekend I had to leave the kids home alone for a little bit. Jack negotiated $10 an hour to be responsible for his little sister, so I guaranteed Caroline the same rate for obeying here brother and not being sassy with him "just because". As it turned out they did a great job and each received $20, but Jack used six dollars of his money for breakfast out with his friends. Anyway Caroline wanted to go to Walmart to get something for her to do today. On our way home here was our conversation...and provided me with the type of moment I live for...
Caroline...Mom, what are you doing?
Me...I'm just keeping an eye on traffic. (I'd been checking my side mirrors and rear view mirror.)
Caroline....hmm. I'll watch out this side for you.
About a minute goes by with no word from her. Then...
Caroline....I wish I was a chameleon.
Me....ummm, okay. Why?
Caroline.....Then I could look at both mirrors at the same time. That'd be cool.
Me...Yes...yes it would.
Yep, these are the moments I live for.
